Wetherby has celebrated the town’s contribution to the Tour de Yorkshire 2016 by unveiling a seat.

Businesses donated to celebrations, organised by Welcome to Wetherby which is run by volunteers to promote the town, when stage one of the three-day cycle race went through the town last April.

And the group used surplus donations to buy a bench at the coach drop-off point near the junction of Horsefair, Hallfield Lane and Walton Road.

Welcome to Wetherby Chairman and town Councillor Cindy Bentley, said: “It seemed right to make sure that there was a lasting tribute to the Tour de Yorkshire celebrations and to the contribution that Wetherby businesses made to what was a memorable and successful occasion for the Town.”

Representatives from Welcome to Wetherby, local businesses and the Old Men’s Parliament attended the recent ceremony. Present were, from left, Katy Huscroft and Zoe Stephens from Hunters Estate Agency, Lucy Gilman from Ware & Kay Solicitors Ltd, Elaine Mills from Nicolla Florist, Dean Buckle from Wetherby Bike Shack, Mrs Sue Trower, Mayor of Wetherby Coun Norma Harrington, Chairman of Welcome to Wetherby Coun Cindy Bentley, Mr John Trower from the Old Men’s Parliament.
