Tockwith Church Services: Sunday, May 12, 11am Holy Communion.

We Need You – Tockwith Festival: It’s getting closer to the event and final preparations are frantically going on behind the scenes to ensure a top class day out for all who visit Tockwith Festival on Saturday, May 18. Your help is needed, because although there is a core team who work on the festival all year round, they wouldn’t have been able to put on last year’s event without all of the lovely volunteers who gave their time, both in advance and on the day itself. Now, with a bigger and better festival in 2013 than ever before the amount of hands needed on deck has increased further. So, whether you fancy pulling pints for an hour, can help marshall the car parks or you can help in the days leading up to the festival the organisers will be delighted to hear from you. Simply go to http://www.tockwithfestivals.co.uk/we-need-you/ fill in the form to indicate your availability and someone will be in touch to thank you in person and arrange things. Or you can email to help@tockwithfestivals.co.uk. Thanks in advance, it wouldn’t happen without you.

Yorkshire Countrywomen’s Association: the Tockwith Branch of the YCA held their AGM on March 27. The president, secretary and treasurer gave their reports on the busy past year. The president and secretary are both retiring after working hard for the group for the past two years and, since there were no members proposed for their replacements, there followed a long, intense discussion on the future of the group. With numbers falling and few new members joining it was becoming difficult to cover the costs of continuing to provide the activities and speakers the YCWA expects. The discussions concluded, regretfully, with a vote to disband the group which was agreed unanimously. The YCA has been an important presence in the village since 1985, and has supported the village in all the changes that have happened over that time, always ready to help with any other group, or individual and will no doubt leave a gap. The officers and members of Tockwith YCA send a sad farewell to Tockwith and hope that the other groups will flourish and overcome the challenges of this difficult time.

Everyone is welcome and you don’t have to be able to read music or even be good at singing (you’ll be amazed how you can improve with practice). If you can only make it once in a while that is also fine. It’s just £2 per two hour session, £1 for pensioners. The choir does perform locally from time to time for charity but that is also not compulsory. It is all very light hearted and most of all fun!
