A rock band formed during a music lesson at Boston Spa School will return to the 02 Academy in Leeds as headline act for this year’s AMP awards on March 26.
Having won the Leeds-based high school battle of the bands competition last year, The Gonzo’s - consisting of Harry Sutherland, 16, (Bass) Tom Hinchcliffe, 17, (Drums), Adam Smith, 16, (Vocals) and Lee Newman, 17, (Guitar) - have had a jam-packed year.
During the last 12 months they have released their debut album, Welcome to our World, on itunes, sold out the Cockpit in Leeds twice and this week are releasing an EP of new songs onto itunes called Ready when You Are.
The Gonzo’s recently signed to Armley-based Mindjack Records.
Adam Smith said: “Over the last two years we have progressed at a rapid rate, gaining lots of fans along the way and putting a great deal of effort into writing our own material.
“It’s an amazing feeling being on stage with these guys and I’m so proud of what we have achieved.”
Harry Sutherland added: “The AMP awards is a great competition for bands.”
