End of year round-up: just in case you missed last week’s issue, here’s a reminder of two events on Friday, December 28 and two events on New Year’s Eve.
Gary B’s Christmas Ball: enjoy freestyle modern jive in the Riley-Smith Hall on Friday, December 28 from 8pm to midnight. Music from DJ Gary B. Smart dress please – black tie if possible. Tickets are £10 per person. For more details contact Gary on 07578423979.
Open Mic Night at Tadcaster Social Club: Friday, December 28 is the night for all musicians, poets, singers, mime artists (and Cliffy) to perform, with mostly festive tunes and the like. Have fun watching singing, playing or performing. It starts at 8.30pm and it’s free.
New Year’s Eve dance at the Riley-Smith Hall: this year’s dance is organised by Rayners Rock and Roll. It promises to be a brilliant night, featuring one of the top bands in the country, The Bobcats. Ticket sales (at £17.50 each) have been excellent and they may already be sold out, but if you are looking for late tickets, please contact Eileen on 07752333094 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org. The doors open at 7.15pm, and the dance starts at 8pm.
New Year’s Eve at Tadcaster Social Club: tickets for the celebrations are on sale in the Club on Chapel Street, at £6 each (with only limited numbers available). This year’s entertainment is a fantastic local band called Mojo: most of the band’s members played in the band Protocol, and they’ll perform a wide range of music from the fifties up to present.
Walkers are Welcome competition: did you pick up a competition sheet from the Walkers are Welcome stall at the Christmas market on December 2? The sheet showed 22 photographs, and all you had to do was to match the photos to the 22 locations on a map of Tadcaster. Easy - your scribe managed to place six in the first week of trying. If you’ve got an entry form, use the Christmas break to find all 22, and submit your entries before the closing date, Saturday, January 5 to Walkers are Welcome at 12, Sedge Rise, Tadcaster, LS24 9LQ. You can find out more about the local Walkers are Welcome group from their website, http://www.tadwalks.org.uk.
Tadcaster Country Walking Club: the club resumes its walks programme after the Christmas break. On Saturday, January 5 is an 11 mile walk in Rosedale, meet in the Britannia car park, ready to leave at 9am. This is a grade 3 walk, moderate with longer and steeper gradients. On Tuesday, January 8 there’s another grade 3 walk, but shorter at 7.5 miles, in Baildon Moor and Shipley Glen. Meet for this walk for a 9.30am start from the Britannia car park. To find out more about the Walking Club, contact the secretary, Pat Bowman, on 01937 833250 or by email to email@example.com.
Stutton Parish Council: the next meeting of Stutton Parish Council will be on Thursday, January 10 at 7.30pm in Stutton Village Hall. The meeting is open to everyone.
