Messy Church: there will be another Messy Church this afternoon, Thursday October 25 in the Boys Sunday school from 3.30pm onwards.
Coffee and Lunch: on Saturday, October 27 the Boys Sunday school as well as the regular Saturday coffee morning which starts at 10am, light lunches will also be served. There will also be a peal attempt on the bells of St Mary’ by a local band starting at noon.
Sunshine Bags: despite the summer being a bit short of sunshine the the Blessing Bags, which were previously called Sunshine Bags and money put in on sunny days, £80 was raised for the Methodist World Mission.
Disaster Fund: donations from Tadcaster Methodist Church’s Harvest Festival, together with the amount received from the sale of produce raised £240 which will be forwarded to the Disaster Emergency Committee.
Historical Society: tonight, Thursday, October 25 members of Tadcaster Historical Society will be hearing from Mr Richard Shepherd about the restoration of the great west window of York Minster when they meet in the coffee lounge of Tadcaster Methodist Church at 7 30pm. New members and visitors are always welcome.
Halloween: Tadcaster Social Club is famous in the town for its Halloween displays and this year will be no exception with the grim reaper, exorcism, chop shop and pits of hell in the displays. On Friday evening , October 26 the kid’s Halloween party with Shaun begins at 6pm and there will be a disco, party games and fancy dress. On Saturday night the adult’s Halloween party with Jim Santana starts at 7 30pm and there will be a fancy dress competition raffles and even bingo.
Kelcbar Centre: on Friday, October 26 there wll be a coffee morning with raffle starting at 10 30am, this will be followed by a pre booked lunch at 12.15pm. Monday, October 29 has chair based exercises at 2pm and on Tuesday part 11 of the Alpha course starts at 6.30pm. The hairdresser will be at the centre from 10 30am on Wednesday with the regular bingo starting at 7 30pm.
Shoe Box Appeal: November 5 is not only Bonfire night it is also the final day for the Samaritans Purse Operation Child Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal. Stepping Stones in Kirkgate has been collecting both completed shoeboxes as well as items such as soap, toothpaste and brush, pencils, crayons, small balls, toy cars, skipping ropes and sweets, but no chocolate to put in them. The boxes will then be checked and sealed before being sent abroad for a child to receive them in time for Christmas.
Sunday Services: with the clocks going back one hour on Saturday night there should be no excuse for being late for the Sunday Services which include 8am and 10.30am service of Holy Communion.in St Marys church. 10.30am Holy Communion at Kirkby Wharfe and in Tadcaster Methodist Church the Rev Amy Walters will be conducting the 10.15am morning service.
Freestyle Jive: on Friday night, October 26 there will be another Tadcaster Jive Freestyle session taking place in the Riley Smith Hall from 8pm until midnight. The licenced bar will be open and there is no need to book, simply pay on the door. The Tadcaster Jive Freestyle evening takes place on the last Friday of each month.
Final Rehearsals: Tadcaster Theatre Company are busy putting the finishing touches for their forthcoming family pantomime Cinderella which is being presented in the Riley Smith Hall from Wednesday, November 7 to Saturday, November 10. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, performances start at 7 30pm but on Saturday, November 10 there will be a matinee at 1pm with the early evening performance starting at 6pm. Advance booked tickets cost £10 with £12 for raised stalls and balcony with a family ticket for four people (one adult + one child under 16 and two others) priced at £35 or £42. Swimming Pool: Tadcaster’s Community Swiming Pool will be operating to their special half term holiday programme from October 29 until November 4, but due to the early eight day before publication deadline required by the Wetherby News for this column full details of the pool’s programme had not been released, however they may be obtained from the pool’s reception on 01937 833001.
