All Saints Church Spofforth: the service on Sunday, October 6 will be a family service at 10.30am.

Kerbside recycling: at Spofforth will be on Tuesday, October 8.

Spofforth in Bloom: chairman, Dave Saunders writes: Now it’s back to work, during October. The lamp post displays will be coming down and the autumn- winter planting of tubs and beds will be carried out. We are also delighted to have taken delivery of the new village sign which was a joint purchase between Spofforth in Bloom, the parish council and a significant donation from our generous sponsor Steve Milner of Earthmill. The sign will be installed by Spofforth in Bloom volunteers in the next week or so. We continue to look for volunteers and sponsors so anyone that would like to spend a few hours, now and again, enhancing the beauty of our lovely village please get in contact with one of our committee, you will be most welcome. Crime report: between July 15 and August 15 there have been four crimes recorded in Spofforth and no detections at that time. There has been a further burglary at Spofforth where a car was stolen. It was abandoned in Harrogate. A house with a high value car was targeted. They seem to concentrate on the Church Hill/ Grange Avenue area so make sure your keys are secured. The door step sellers are still around and another male in Kirk Deighton has been reported by the police. They ask that you continue to report these individuals. It cannot be emphasised too often that, if you see anything that is remotely suspicious call the police on 101 or 999 if it is an emergency. You can also speak to PC Mark Ayre on 101 or Email him on saferknaresborough@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.

My files: tell me that this Spofforth News 400, a quadruple century. I shall raise my bat and acknowledge the applause of the readers and pay tribute to all the good volunteers at Spofforth who supply me with the material for the column.
