All Saints Church Spofforth: the service on Sunday, September 29 will be the parish holy communion at Rudding Park .

Household waste: collection at Spofforth will be on Tuesday, October 1.

Spofforth Seniors: coffee morning will be on Thursday, October 3 from 10-11.30am at the Long Memorial Hall. If you are over 50 years old and would like to meet your neighbours for a chat or top share mutual concerns you will be very welcome to go along for a tea or coffee.

Spofforth Parish Council: screened the first of the Spofforth Cine performances on Sunday, September15. The film was The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel shown in the comfort of the refurbished Long Memorial Hall with the additional pleasure of refreshments including wine and other beverages with crisps, popcorn etc, served through the hatch from the newly installed kitchen. The next screening will be the toe-tapping: Mamma Mia (PG). November 17 the tear jerker: War Horse (12A). December 15 the Christmas matinee at 2.30 pm:  Nativity (U). Tickets in advance from June Geddes 01937 590695, Christine Atkinson 01937 591424and Jane Hare 01937 590393, G&M News and the Hairbelle or pay on the door on the night. The proceeds will go towards the further improvements at the hall.

Spofforth school: would like to specifically welcome their ten new reception pupils who are: Luana, Jeremy, Alana, Phoebe, Thomas, Emmy-Mai, Charles, Meg, Wilf and Millie. They are also pleased to welcome Alfie in Class 3 and Ruby in Class 4. The head teacher asks staff and pupils to make these new children and their families feel part of the Spofforth family. They are also delighted to welcome the following new staff to Spofforth School: Miss Tuley Class 1 Teacher; Mrs Rose KS1 Higher Level Teaching Assistant; Miss Jones Class 4 SEN Teaching Assistant and Mrs James School Direct Trainee Teacher. As Miss Tuley is a newly qualified teacher she is entitled to additional planning time. When she is away from her class this will be covered by Mrs Rose (a qualified teacher) and Mrs Caldecott, with whom the children are already familiar.

Spofforth in Bloom: were pleased to receive a Gold Award for the village category in Yorkshire in Bloom, 2013. After all the 27 years of effort the village has, now, achieved gold three years running, including best village in Britain in Britain in Bloom. A small ceremony was held at The Long Memorial Hall to receive the news. David Saunders, the chairman, thanked all the ‘ in bloomers’ and sponsors for their continued enthusiastic efforts.
