All Saints Church Spofforth: the service on Sunday, Febrtuary 10 will be morning prayer at 10.30am. The collection at the Christmas Eve crib service, together with sheep, raised £254 for Martin House.

Household waste collection: at Spofforth will be on Friday, February 8.

Spofforth Women’s Institute: will meet on Tuesday, February 12 at 7.30pm in the Long Memorial Hall. The talk by Lucy Longdon will on the Follifoot Park Disabled Riding Group. The competition item will be a horseshoe.

Spofforth Village Society: hosted a quiz evening in the Long Memorial Hall on Saturday, January 26 which, judging by all the noise and laughter, was thoroughly enjoyed by all of the 80 plus contestants. Keith Wilkes was the quiz master and presented a varied programme which included a popular music round and a system of playing bingo with the answers. Winning teams were The Spice Bandits, led by Dan Atkinson; Dave Morgan’s team, The Biriani Brainboxes; The Drunken Danzaks, captained by Bernie Bowdler and Mr Howson’s Dunno Kebabs. There was a bar with beer and wine at reasonable prices and curry with poppadoms, nan bread and dips all prepared in the hall kitchen. The evening raised over £800 to be distributed to various good causes in the village.
