Members of Harrogate and District Soroptimists recieved recognition for their service to Contact the Elderly. Mary Robinson, executive officer for the North and Midlands presented long service certificates which amounted to 164 years of service from 17 of the club members. Once a month the Soroptmists either act as tea party hosts or drivers to ensure that isolated elderly people have the opportunity to meet, socialise and have a wonderful tea. The club’s involvement started 12 years ago. There are now two groups organised by club member Elsie Johnston, one in Harrogate and one in Ripon. Mary commended the club on its commitment and particularly Elsie’s involvement recognised by Contact the Elderly with the March Christian award 2011.

Soroptimist International is a women’s service organisation, with women inspiring action and transforming lives.
