Roy Mitchell: over 150 Shadwell residents attended the Thanksgiving service held in St Paul’s Church for Roy Mitchell who died in December. Roy was a well-known resident of Shadwell. He was a founder member of the Shadwell Probus and Bridge clubs. Roy gave bridge lessons to new members in the early days of the Bridge Club. He had been treasurer of the village hall for a number of years and helped in many fund raising events held in the hall. He was noted for his witty comments and was always ready with a quick response, not always well received but you had to know his dry sense of humour to understand him. Roy and his wife Ruth celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in October and renewed their wedding vows at the special service held annually in Ripon Cathedral in June, this day was a double celebration for them, their first great-grandson Gregory was born on the same day. Roy will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him and all our sympathy is sent to Ruth and the family.
