Centenary Dinner: seventy six guests attended the Centenary dinner held on Saturday, November 10 in the village hall. The dinner was organised by a committee formed from members of the Parish Council, Local History Group and Village Hall Federation. The dinner celebrated the 100th anniversary of Shadwell leaving Wetherby District Council and becoming a part of Leeds City Council. It was also an opportunity to launch the newly formed Local History Society. The guest of honour, the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Coun Ann Castle, was introduced by the master of ceremonies, Coun Robert Dyson. The Lord Mayor gave a brief speech before everyone was served with an excellent three course meal, cooked by David Ford and served by Michael Ford. After the meal Caroline Gruen officially launched the Local History Society, this was followed by a talk on the history of Shadwell by Kevin Grady, director of Leeds Civic Trust. There was a display of Shadwell past and a short quiz prepared by the History group. The money raised from the dinner and raffle was shared equally between the History Society and the village hall.
Shadwell Village Hall Quiz: the next village hall quiz will be held on Friday, November 30 at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome, teams should be of approximately six people. If you don’t have a team you can join in anyway. Tickets are £4 each and this includes a light supper.
