Yorkshire Countrywomen’s Association: instead of the usual evening meeting the YCA had a strawberry tea party for their August meeting. This was held in the village hall on the afternoon of Friday, August 9. The afternoon was sunny and dry so there was a good attendance of members and friends; there were even a few husbands. The visitors enjoyed a good cup of tea with cakes, scones, strawberries and cream. Catherine Hilditch had a stall with her beautiful hand-made cards and was kept busy as were the cake and book stalls. Money raised from the event went to the YCA and funds were swelled by over £200. There was of course a raffle and this lead to the story of the Homing Cushion. Gloria made a patchwork cushion for the recently held Marie Curie tea afternoon raffle. Husband John won it. The cushion was then displayed on the Alwoodley Quilter’s stand at the Leeds Show. It was then put in the strawberry tea raffle. Granddaughter Eleanor won it this time! It is now confined to her bedroom. The next meeting of the YCA will be held on Friday, September 13. The speaker will be Angela Henson with Malta, a Small Island with a long History.
