Youngsters at a Sherburn in Elmet Scout group will benefit from new camping equipment thanks to a donation from a leading house builder.

The 1st All Saints Sherburn in Elmet Scout Group has received the £1,000 windfall from Persimmon Homes Yorkshire.

The donation comes as part of the builder’s Community Champions project, which will see a pot of £24,000 being given to support local groups, charities and good causes over a 12 month period.

The group will use the cash to buy new tents, a water boiler, catering equipment for their camps and indoor speakers to enhance their section nights.

Richard Worlock, group scout leader, said: “We’re so grateful to Persimmon Homes Yorkshire - and the young people will be delighted as well when we tell them.

“We are all work so hard to raise money to support our various activities. In recent months we hosted a Bonfire night and over the coming weeks will be planning next years fund raising activities.

“We currently have 120 members who attend our Beavers, Cubs and Scout sessions and run a pack night every evening in the working week and this is increasing year on year. This grant will go some way in helping us to support our growing group so they can experience more of the outdoors.”

Simon Usher, deputy managing director at Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said the Community Champions initiative was a way of supporting people across every place where the company works.

He said: “We’re delighted to hand over the money to the 1st All Saints Sherburn in Elmet Scout Group.”
