Scarcroft Women’s Institute: the June WI meeting took place at the village hall on Thursday. The speaker Pat Osborne gave an interesting talk on Lady Randy Winston Churchill’s mother. Hostess was Joan & Doris Hornsby.

Scarcroft Show Society coffee morning: the Annual Show Society coffee morning, plant sale and Rose Show took place at the village hall on Saturday There was an excellent turn out, but certain areas of the village conspicuous by their absence. An excellent plant and cake stall. Raffle. Maureen Brewer of the Wetherby Crime Prevention Panel was giving out anti crime information and purse lanyards. An enjoyable time was had by all. The Rose Competition and Rose Bowl was won by Kaye Hullah. Please remember the Annual Flower Show on September 14 at the village hall. Get your entries planned, schedules from the committee.

Retiring Scarcroft parish clerk: a lunch in honour of the retiring parish clerk Peter Hart, was held at the Windmill Inn at Linton. A very nice meal was enjoyed by members, wives and husbands. Peter spoke about his career, teaching and with various aspects of local authority work, later becoming clerk to both Collingham and Scarcroft Parish Councils, steering the council through the biggest changes in 120 years of existence. Senior coun Paul C Thompson who has worked alongside four clerks over the years, thanked Peter for his work over 16 years and wished Gina Carter, the new clerk, all success in her new job and all the best to Peter with whatever he is involved, currently a lot of time at the Leeds Minster (Parish Church), and charity work.

Wetherby Light Music Singers: Scarcroft residents travelled to Wetherby Methodist Church to hear Sing & Swing, a concert of popular music, much from the shows. Introduced by the chairman, Pauline Hills, The accompanist was Martin Hewitt. The excellent performance was enjoyed by all.
