Scarcroft and District Croquet Club start their second season playing on the grounds of Scarcroft Cricket Club, with an open day on Sunday from 11am to 5pm.

Men and women are invited to go along and have a basic introduction to the game of golf croquet, under the direction of a Croquet Association coach.

“It’s free to everyone and no previous croquet experience is required,” said a spokesman.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day and club members will be on hand to talk about the club.

The spokesman added: “Golf croquet is growing in popularity, it can be played at a leisurely pace or more competitively and, is becoming a popular way to keep fit and active.

“At the simplest level it can be picked up quickly and then, as skills develop the possibilities to play against other clubs expand.”

This year the club is running a branch through Wetherby U3A and will be moving forward with a full calendar of events.
