A WETHERBY resident has been presented with a commemorative certificate in recognition of 20 years’ service as the longest serving member of the team which promotes the weekly jazz sessions at the Boston Spa Village Hall.
Anne-Marie Mason, of Walton Road, first became involved in 1991 in the days of Jazz at The Crown under the auspices of well-known former landlord, Ken Nicholson.
In accepting the memento, Anne–Marie told a packed audience last Saturday evening that, initially, she ‘didn’t enjoy jazz music’ but now confesses to being an avid fan.
“In addition to the wonderful music, there is a genuinely friendly atmosphere,” she said.
Last Saturday’s session with the Savannah Jazz Band took the form of a charity evening sponsored by committee member, Tim Mallinson during which £850 was raised for the British Polio Fellowship.
The next session starts at 8.30pm and features Harlem Hot Stompers on Saturday, August 13.
Guests are asked to bring their own tipple – glasses are provided.
