A kind, generous and thoughtful former Mayoress.

To all who knew her, Sylvia was kind, thoughtful and generous.

She and her husband Robert had met in their teenage years and eventually married.

Upon Robert’s retirement in 1995, they moved to Boroughbridge and when he was elected as Deputy Mayor in 2001/2 and Mayor both in 2002/3 and 2007/8 of Boroughbridge Town Council, Sylvia was by his side.

In 2009/10, Robert and Sylvia were Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress of Harrogate Borough and then served as Mayor and Mayoress of the Borough from 2012/2013.

Sylvia was a homemaker at heart and the publicity associated with civic engagements was probably a little out of her comfort zone, nevertheless she attended each event impeccably dressed and totally supportive of Robert.

Sylvia loved her grandchildren very much and had a great deal of empathy for sick children.

During their Mayoral year, Robert and Sylvia chose Candlelighters as their nominated charity.

Candlelighters support children with cancer and their families and is dedicated to raising funds for the Children’s and Adolescent Cancer Unit in Leeds.

The funeral service for Sylvia will take place on Monday, February 2 in St James’ Church, Boroughbridge at 1pm. Robert has requested family flowers only please but donations for Candlelighters would be greatly

appreciated.
