We’ve been listening to our readers ever since the Wetherby News changed to a tabloid format.
From those discussions, we’ve made some more changes to the newspaper from Thursday, January 16, in line with your feedback.
Readers told us they wanted a more traditional masthead and crisper, less cluttered pages inside.
There are more in-depth features too, and background articles about the main news stories across Wetherby and Tadcaster.
From our focus groups with readers, and non readers, we were told very firmly that people wanted articles ‘to get their teeth into’.
There are new features too in our sports pages, with a new column analysing local sport from talented sports reporter Ed White called, appropriately, The White Stuff.
There’s a new sporting nostalgia column, new layouts for Match of the Week and new columns for feedback from readers.
But the favourites are still there - in exactly the same place as before, including Readers’ Views, Business and Family Notices.
A key element of all the feedback from our readers was the issue of navigation.
When we first changed the ‘News to a compact shape, readers said it was difficult to find their way around the newspaper.
So we have been improving the indexing since then, and now there’s a very clear contents panel on page 2, and indexing for the different sections throughout the newspaper.
The Weekend section too has improved.
New designs complement new features which include a new walking page, more space for travel features, a new Weekend on a Plate food diary, guest columnists and a new weekly column ‘Room for a Laugh’, with up and coming Harrogate comedian Tom Taylor.
We have made all these changes in response to feedback from our readers.

We believe we are offering a much improved newspaper giving a weekly round-up of Harrogate district life.
And our website offers all the breaking news, and local videos seven days a week.
Your new-look Wetherby News is on sale from Thursday, January 16.
