York-based artist Iain Will is currently exhibiting a selection of his oil paintings in the ArtSpace at Margins Bookshop in Wetherby.

Iain has painted all his life and likes to paint a variety of subjects, including people, animals and landscapes.

He has exhibited in many venues including RHS Harlow Carr, York Guildhall, York Art Gallery, Sutton Bank Visitor Centre, and Norman Rae Art Gallery in York University.

He also shows his work at craft fairs around the North Yorkshire area.

In describing his technique, Iain said: “I start a painting using acrylics, to cover up the white of the canvas and to sketch out the composition; I then use oil paints for the detailed work.

“I hope my paintings create a feeling of mood, and by using complimentary colours I hope to give my work vibrancy.

“I paint in a style that is a mixture of impressionism and realism, while trying not to be too photographic and keeping a painterly feel to my art.”

The exhibition is open at the Church Street venue, run by Wetherby Baptist Church, from 10am to 2pm, Tuesdays to Saturdays. Further examples of Iain’s work can be seen online at: www.art2enjoy.co.uk.
