The proposed construction of a hydro turbine on the weir of the River Wharfe in Boston Spa is to be discussed next weekend.
From 2pm to 8pm on Friday, July 11 and from 9.30am to 12pm the following day, the village hall will play host to a community open day, discussing the plans as well as the village’s neighbourhood plan.
The parish council are currently in the process of conducting a feasibility study, through the firm Ove Arup and Partners Ltd, of installing hydro power on the weir to generate renewable energy and potentially provide income for community projects.
This is being funded through the rural community energy fund and includes possible design options, an estimate of the costs to construct the turbine and funding options, the likely cash returns from selling the energy, and any planning and environmental considerations.
A summary of the initial findings will be on display at the community open day and the public will have the opportunity to ask about the designs, give the council their thoughts, and find out more about the idea.
Residents can also ask the neighbourhood plan steering group about the neighbourhood plan and provide their feedback.
