Selby and Ainsty MP Nigel Adams hosted a breakfast briefing for local businesses in Tadcaster on Superfast Broadband.

The briefing was attended by 16 businesses mainly from Tadcaster and the surrounding area.

In addition to learning about the support services that are available full details were provided about progress being made in upgrading broadband in the area.

Speeds in excess of 25 Mb per second are already available in a large part of Tadcaster and more will follow in the next few months.

The MP said: “Exciting progress is being made in upgrading broadband services across the whole of North Yorkshire.

“The project will cost over £70 million but the prediction is that it should deliver much more than that as a financial benefits to the local economy.”

To help local businesses gain from Superfast Broadband as soon as possible, a series of consultancy services are being provided as part of the project.

“It was a pleasure to host this event, to hear about the services and to see the enthusiasm for high speed broadband from the companies that attended.

“I am confident that the effort put into getting the funds for the broadband upgrade will be of major benefit to our region.”

Around 40 businesses across Selby have already signed to a Superfast North Yorkshire support service which provides free business services such as training workshops, skills master classes and grants of up to £700 for eligible businesses across the county.
