A Wetherby trader is raising concerns about the expansion of the Morrison’s store, following the announcement that it will be going ahead.
Store manager of Sevenoaks Sound and Vision Richard Meadmore expressed his worries at having to move out of the Horsefair Centre when the plans were initially announced to the public in May 2012.
On learning that the expansion will be going ahead as planned, despite work still not taking place, Mr Meadmore said he fears Morrisons doesn’t care about the Wetherby community at all.
He said: “I can see no reason why they are not sharing information with people. It is extremely poor community relations and it makes me think they are not interested in the community.
“They have clearly got absolutely no concern for the retailers or the retailer’s staff.
“This general state of uncertainty is very unhelpful. We would appreciate some contact from them.
“I am mostly irritated that I am not being kept in the loop. It is not great.”
Work on the expansion of the store was due to take place in October 2013.
A Morrisons spokesperson said: “Our tenants are important to us and to the success of the Wetherby store.
“We have been in contact with them for some time to discuss the proposals, their tenancies and timescales.
“Tenants should not be concerned about their future as this is a lengthy process and we cannot proceed with works until we have the agreement of our tenants.”
