A man’s body has been recovered from the river at Knaresborough this afternoon.

Initial reports had been that someone had fallen at Nidd Gorge, and emergency services were all called out to help with a rescue.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police were called at about 4.15pm today with a report of a person in the river at Knaresborough.

“Police, fire and ambulance attended the scene and sadly the body of a man was recovered from the water a short time later.

“Investigations are ongoing, but it is not believed there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

“We are not in a position to identify the man at this time.”
