MORE than a century of history will be celebrated in an exhibition to mark the full re-opening of The Majestic in Harrogate.

The hotel is due to be back in full operation from this August following a devastating fire in May 2010, which claimed the life of employee Nigel Butterfield.

After months of work to repair the damage to the historic building, the company is appealing for help in finding items for the exhibition.

General manager Vince Johnson said: “This much-loved hotel has been at the heart of Harrogate life since July 18, 1900, when it first opened – that’s 111 years of local social history.

“We are appealing to the local community to help us. If you have anything relating to the hotel – pictures, dance cards, menus, wedding mementos, poscards, cutlery and bills or receipts for example – we would be very excited to hear from you.

“Old keys and pictures are all welcome – this call also comes with an amnesty so please don’t worry about confessing to any previous indiscretions! Our exhibition will allow us all to enjoy again some very happy times held at the hotel.”

Anyone who donates memorabilia will receive a personal invitation from Mr Johnson to a special reception at the hotel, due to be held in the autumn. For more information, visit www.barcelo-hotels.co.uk or, if you are able to help, call Mr Johnson on 01423 700300.
