Wetherby WI are celebrating 70 years in existence but it hasn’t been jam and Jerusalem all the way.
The group, which was formed in 1943 with 32 members, will mark the anniversary with a dinner at the Bridge Inn on October 15.
Secretary Joan Staples said there are still the same number of attendees but activities have changed: “We have got well away from jam and Jerusalem.
“We have become a lot more modern now and the Calendar Girls did a lot to help with that.
“In December we will be doing a pantomime and last month the donkey sanctuary visited.”
She added: “Being a member of a local WI is all about fun and friendship.”
The group, which currently has a display in Wetherby Library to mark the 70 years, is looking for new members and meets on the second Wednesday of the month at St James’ Church rooms at 7.30pm.
Anyone wanting tickets for the ceilidh can phone Joan on 01937 584856.
