Ripon man in 'critical' condition after Wetherby crash

A 25-year-old man from Ripon is in 'critical' condition after suffering serious head injuries when the car he was driving left the road near Wetherby.

The incident happened at about 10.50pm last night (Wednesday April 13) on the A1 (M) a mile north of the junction for Wetherby near Kirk Deighton.

The man was driving a silver BMW 320, which left the carriageway to its left hand side and collided with some fencing, causing the driver to suffer serious head injuries.

The 25-year-old was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where he is described as critical but stable.

The road was closed for five hours while police worked at the scene.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or who saw the BMW prior to the collision, to get in touch.
