Harrogate’s meatball bar is believed to be the first of its kind.
It would be a brave man who suggested it for a first date, but the Yorkshire team behind Harrogate’s newest and ballsiest restaurant reckon meatballs could be the town’s next big thing, writes Alex Johnston.
The Yorkshire Meatball Co this week opened the UK’s first meatball bar on Station Bridge.
And the ‘Advertiser team was tickled by an invitation to ‘taste some balls and sip some bubbles’ at the launch night tomorrow (Friday).
Father and son pair David and Gareth Atkinson have created a menu offering more meatballs than you can shake a stick at, and are adamant the bar is what the town - and nation - have been missing.
Managing Director David said: “Harrogate is a great town where both locals and visitors alike enjoy a range of cosmopolitan tastes.
“Our research suggests people love meatballs and while many cuisines, including Italian, cater for this humble dish, with the company we wanted to create something truly unique.
“While we may all enjoy a good plate of spaghetti and meatballs, we wanted to offer Harrogate diners something quite different.
“We’ve sourced local ingredients, beers and ciders, and offer Yorkshire classics with a new meatball twist.”
Plumbing the menu
The company offers hand-rolled Yorkshire Balls, Hit Balls, gluten-free Birdie Balls, Fish Balls and Fake Balls for vegetarians.
They are served with Yorkshire Beers sourced from the region’s microbreweries and a range of Yorkshire produced cordials.
Owners say the bar will champion local produce.
Brand and Marketing Manager Gareth said: “The company aims to source the majority of their ingredients from Yorkshire traders, whilst supporting the region’s micro-breweries.”
