Boston Spa Gardening Society is marking its 25 anniversary this year and is set to welcome its 200th speaker this spring.
The group was started in 1989 with just 10 members and since has grown to a membership of around 70.
“Over the years there have been many topics covered,” said spokesman Hazel Wicks.
“These range from the old favourites like summer perennials and fuchsias through demonstrations on making a Christmas wreath and pruning flowering shrubs to more offbeat topics like the history of garden vegetables and Roman horticulture.”
She added that they will welcome their 200th speaker to the Deepdale Community centre meeting place on March 26, at 7.30pm, when Joe Maiden will give his 200 top tips.
“We want members to feel comfortable at the meetings not intimidated by complicated Latin names and scientific jargon and although it is difficult to compete with the plethora of gardening programmes on the television, it’s amazing how many professional secrets we can pick up,” added Hazel.
In addition to the regular talks, the group holds a plant sale in May where it offers plants and cuttings donated from members’ gardens.
