Sisters Caroline Liddle and Joanne Richmond are walking on air after a Blossom Ball they organised in April raised an incredible £10,370 for St Gemma’s Hospice.

Caroline said they raised the money in memory for their father Martin Richmond, from Tadcaster, after he spent his final days at the Moortown-based hospice in June last year.

“The care that he and the family received from the minute he was transferred there was wonderful,” said Caroline.

“Every member of staff we met ensured we were all looked after. Nothing was too much trouble.

“We were so thankful that six months after our Dad passed away, we decided we wanted to raise some money and came up with the idea of a Charity Ball at the Pavilions in Harrogate.

“We thought if we can get 150 guests and raise around £3,000, wouldn’t that be wonderful, so are incredibly happy to host over 300 guests and raise over £10,000.

“Everyone said what a wonderful time they had while raising a fantastic amount of money for a charity so close to our hearts.

“We will always be indebted to everyone at St Gemma’s and this was a small way of saying thank you.”

St Gemma’s Hospice Fundraiser Tara Greatorex said: “The money raised will pay for 22 days care for a patient in our In-Patient unit and makes a massive difference.” Caroline and Joanne’s fundraising hasn’t ended here as Caroline is taking part in the St Gemma’s Yorkshire 3 Peaks on September 5 and Joanne has signed up for the Great North Run on September 7.
