A specialist bomb squad was called after a member of the public found what was believed to be a World War II missile in Thorp Arch but turned out to be a old car part.
West Yorkshire Police were called to the scene in Whins Lane at around 8.20pm on Friday, April 4.
It is believed that a member of the public alerted the emergency services after they came across the discovery in a local field which was not close to any residential areas.
That evening, bomb disposal experts from Catterick attended the scene.
A police cordon was put in place and the scene was secured whilst the bomb disposal team was on its way.
Speaking about the discovery, a West Yorkshire Police spokesman: “It turned out to be an old part of a car cylinder.”
