East Keswick Tennis Club has netted a major community grant award.

The club, which is based off Moor Lane, is to use the £11,000 from Caird Bardon Limited for major improvements to their Carr Green courts.

Commenting on the award, Robert Siekierkowski, Chairman of East Keswick Tennis Club, said: “We hope the two resurfaced courts will be ready for action by spring 2013 in good time for us to welcome both new and existing members to our conveniently placed club.

“We would like to thank Caird Bardon Limited and also East Keswick Parish Council for their support in securing the future of this vital village amenity.”

In recent years the surface of the courts, adjacent to the Carr Green children’s play area, has suffered due to poor drainage and moss growth.

Mr Siekierkowski explained that the plan is to use the grant, together with a substantial contribution from the club’s own funds, to refurbish them completely.

East Keswick Tennis Club, which provides recreational and competitive tennis for all ages, has been running for 50 years and has more than 100 members, with club nights on Thursdays during the season.
