BRAMHAM athlete Jessica Learmonth is celebrating after achieving high finishes in two challenging sporting events.

The 23-year-old was the first-placed woman in the 10km Great Bramham Run on July 17, and on Sunday was the sixth fastest female in the Castle Howard Triathlon near York.

Competing for the first time in the triathlon, which involved a 1,500m swim, 46km bike ride and 10km run, she recorded a finishing time of 2h 48m and was placed 29 out of 170 competitors.

Jessica caught the sporting bug early on and began competitive swimming at the age of eight.

By the time she was 14 she was travelling the world with the national swimming team while completing her education at Boston Spa Comprehensive.

Jessica also played football for Leeds United Ladies, Garforth and Ossett Albion before a knee injury forced her out of the game but she fought her way back to fitness by competing in 10km runs and cycle rides.
