GENERAL manager of the Wetherby Whaler Mark Savage will be supporting the Wetherby 10k on September 11 as the Fish and Chip shop backs the community event again for the fifth year.

But Mark - pictured striking Usain Bolt’s archery pose outside the Market Square premises - will be concentrating on re-fuelling the runners rather than taking part himself.

Mark is a keen sportsman himself, and having now retired from the local cricket scene now spends time coaching and training the under 12’s in the Shadwell Cricket Team.

He said: “We will be geared up to welcome the runners for well earned refreshments after their race and are offering the usual 25 percent discount if they show their race number,”

“We also award the Team Shields for the fastest runners on the day but whatever their speed all finishers can take advantage of our discount offer.

“The event has proved popular with us in the past and is a great community event.

“The race also has a local community feel whilst also attracting runners from far and wide.”

Co organiser Willie Allen, of Wetherby Lions added ‘The Wetherby Run 10K and its associated Moores Mini-Marathon has quickly become a major event in the Wetherby & District Lions Club’s event calendar,”

“With the invaluable help of Wetherby Runners over the last five years, and our various sponsors, it is firmly on the local events map but its athletic profile is also now recognised nationally providing an inspiring and fun day for youngsters and adults alike”

As the run proves year on year to be a popular event for all abilities the organisers have decided to provide chip timing in 2011.

l More Information and entry forms for the Moores Mini Marathon and Wetherby 10k can be found on the Wetherby Runners web site at www.wetherbyrunnersac.co.uk and cost £11.00 for club runners and £13.00 for unattached runners.
