FIREFIGHTerS are urging motorists to roll up to help them raise funds for their charity.

Wetherby crews will be staging a sponsored car wash at the Walton Road station on Saturday from 11am to 3pm.

Donations can be made on the day but the firefighters are hoping to beat the £400 raise last year.

The event comes days before Chimney Fire Safety Week, which starts on Monday.

With the weather becoming colder and householders lighting up, firefighters are urging people to get their chimneys cleaned by a registered sweep.

In the last year, there were 134 chimney fires across West Yorkshire – 99 of them were between the months of October and March.
