Litter charter launch set to urge residents to clean up their act

Wetherby residents are being urged to clean up their act with a new campaign being launched today (September 12).

Action group Welcome to Wetherby has drawn up a charter which it will issue, in a clamp down on littering.

Spokesman for W2W Cindy Bentley said: “We must educate our children and young people to take pride in their surroundings and educate adults to set an example.

“As a start, we have designed a charter which will be distributed to individuals, businesses and schools, setting out our duties and responsibilities.”

As well as asking residents to take action against litter, the charter calls on the town and city councils to play their part also by acting on litter picking and emptying litter bins.

The former Mayor added: “It isn’t going to be easy but we have to take action, otherwise the problem will just go on and the situation will get progressively worse.”

Members of W2W will have a display in the Market Place today from 9am to promote the campaign which will be officially launched at 10am.
