Student's three countries cycle

Hannah Atkins, 18, a first year Philosphy student at Manchester University, is aiming to cycle 300 miles in just four days through three countries, starting in Budapest, Hungary and finishing in Zagreb, Croatia.

To fund the trip she is holding a cycling-themed quiz night at Oatlands Mount Club, Harrogate, on Saturday April 22 at 7pm.

She said: “I’ve never done anything on this scale before but all the effort is for a very worthy cause.

“I’m hoping local cycle enthusiasts, cycling clubs and people who want a fun night out will come along and support the event.

“Local businesses and organisations have been really generous and have donated some great raffle prizes.”

Hannah, along with fellow students, will join teams from three other UK universities from June 26 to 1 July 1.

She added: “I’m really excited to be doing the ride. Having done multi-day cycles with my family I know what to expect and I’ll have to put in some serious training to get fit for the challenge.

“Unfortunately, some of my close family and friends have been diagnosed with breast cancer. I am using this as my main motivation for undertaking such a big challenge, as I want to help them, and other people who are in the same situation.

“I want to make sure no one loses a daughter, a mother, a grandmother, or a friend to breast cancer again. The sum of £300m is needed to fund this amazing research so any donation, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated.”

Breast Cancer Now is dedicated to ensuring that by 2050 everyone diagnosed with breast cancer will live.
