Boston Spa and district primary schoolchildren will have the chance of going for gold later this month in a special event to celebrate the Olympics.
The Higher Sports Games, which will consist of non-contact games to test physical and mental abilities, is being organised by The King’s Church, Boston Spa and the Higher Sports organisation, and will take place on Saturday, June 30 at Boston Spa School.
June Warner, one of the organisers, said: “As the momentum builds ahead of the London 2012 Olympics, we wanted to hold an event that will infuse and inspire local children with the spirit of the Games.
“This is a golden opportunity for youngsters from Boston Spa and the surrounding areas to demonstrate their skills in fun mixed team-based activities which, hopefully, will foster good community relations.”
The afternoon will kick off at 2.30pm with the first games starting at 3pm. There will be a medal ceremony at 5pm followed by a hog roast to round off proceedings.
Schools, churches and youth groups are invited to pre-register their teams for the event which will be co-ordinated by staff from the school with help from members of King’s and other local churches.
The teams will be made up of children between the ages of six years to 11 yrs, with seven children per team, with a minimum of two girls or two boys in each.
Final entries must be received by midday on Wednesday, June 20.
