Harrogate Grammar School students William Eley and Manmeet Sidhu have been selected to perform at the opening ceremony of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this year.

They are both year 13 students studying A level Theatre Studies and have been members of the National Youth Theatre (NYT) of Great Britain for one and two years respectively. Will and Mani were two of 1,500 NYT members called to auditions, they have successfully been chosen to perform in a cast of just 25.

“It was a tough process which involved dance and drama audition sections” said Will, who played the role of Tony in Harrogate Grammar School’s recent production of West Side Story. Mani added: “We are really excited to be given the chance to perform on an international forum” added Mani, also a member of English Youth Ballet.
