One pupil who has certainly made the most of this year’s summer holiday is Sofie Woon from Gateways School in Harewood.

After winning the Hertfordshire Summer National Tour 18 and under girls doubles and the Scottish junior open 18 and under girls doubles with her partner Alice Thane, Sofie went on to gain her first Junior World Ranking Points due to her performance at an ITF in Edinburgh.

Sofie then went on to play in the Women’s British Tour in both Nottingham and Ilkley before winning the Women’s Events at the City of Leeds Tournament.

To add to these accomplishments, Sofie finished the season by competing in the Yorkshire County Closed Championship where she received the titles of Yorkshire Ladies Singles Champion, Ladies Double, 18 and Under Girls Doubles and 18 and Under Mixed Double Champion.

Dr Tracy Johnson, Headmistress at Gateways School said: “Sophie is one of those dedicated students who plays as hard as she works.

“She richly deserves her success and we are proud to have her as part of the Gateways community.”
