Two reminders this week: How Many Loaves Have You? This afternoon, Friday, at 2pm, women from East Keswick and Bardsey will celebrate Women’s World Day of Prayer at East Keswick Methodist Church, when the speaker will be Mrs. Christine Burton. Although organised and led by women, this is essentially a day of prayer for everybody and all are welcome to attend. Bardsey Horticultural Society meets this evening, Friday, in the Callister Hall at 7.45pm when Vanessa Cook will give An Introduction to Hardy Geraniums and Pulmonarias. New members and visitors are always welcome.
Church services this Sunday: Holy Communion at St. Mary Magdalene’s, Moor Lane, at 9.15am, Morning Worship, with Junior Church and Crèche, at the Methodist Church, Main Street, at 10.30am will be led by the Rev’d Peter Howard from York and will be followed by refreshments in the church hall.
Churches Together in Lent: A programme of services and visits has been arranged for villagers during Lent, which starts this week on Ash Wednesday, March 9, with Commination and Communion at St. Mary Magdalene’s at 7.30pm. For those unaware of what Commination is, this is the opportunity to go along and experience something different. Other evenings to book in your diary are Thursday, March 24, for a visit to St. George’s Crypt in Leeds, Wednesday, April 6, for a visit to Blenheim Baptist Church, also in Leeds and Maundy Thursday, April 21, for a Celebration of the Last Supper at the Church of All Hallows, Bardsey. Further details will be advised nearer the time.
East Keswick Women’s Institute: Their next meeting is on Tuesday, March 8, at 2pm in the Verity Room at East Keswick village hall, when their guest speaker is Mrs. Joyce Bithray, who will talk on ‘A Rain Forest Journey’. Guests and new members are welcome. The WI’s annual jumble sale is tomorrow week, Saturday, March 12, at 2pm in the village hall. This is a good opportunity to clear any jumble. Members will collect any you may have on Friday, March 11, between 2-4pm. It can be left out by the door and should be clearly marked as jumble, no furniture please. Bardsey Beer Festival: If you cannot wait until East Keswick’s Beer Festival in the autumn, then you can support Bardsey tomorrow week, Saturday, March 12, from noon to 10pm, in Bardsey village hall.
