Yorkshire Cricket Club captain Andrew Gale and England women’s bowler Katherine Brunt are among the region’s cricket stars urging Wetherby area primary school teams to enter the Drax Cup 2012.
The duo are both ambassadors for the Drax Cup, the biggest cricket competition for Under 9s in the country which ends with the finals at Headingley on July 8.
Schools need to enter by Friday March 23 and by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by contacting the Yorkshire Cricket Board cricket development manager for their region.
Andrew said: “I first played cricket when I was eight and the Drax Cup is a fantastic way of introducing the game to youngsters.”
Katherine said: “Discovering you enjoy a sport is a great feeling and hopefully the competition will inspire more children to give cricket a go.”
Peter Emery, production director of Drax added that about 12,500 have entered the Drax Cup contest during its six years.
“Youth sport and education are two important themes of our support for communities and this is an ideal way to bring them together,” he said.
The competition begins after Easter and runs until July.
