A trio of community stalwarts have been recognised for their contribution to Tadcaster this month.

Three residents - Kirsty Perkins, Colin Hunter and Kevin Derry, all received a Tadcaster Merit Award after being nominated by members of the public at Tadcaster’s town council meeting on Tuesday April 9.

Kirsty Perkins was awarded for her efforts in reviving Tadcaster Carnival last year and leading a group of volunteers for the memorable event.

Station Manager of Tadcaster Fire and Rescue Service, Colin Hunter, was awarded for his ‘oustanding service to the community of Tadcaster’ during the 2012 flooding in the town.

And receiving an award for his contribution to young people and sport in the Tadcaster community was Kevin Derry of Tadcaster Albion Football Club.

The Merit Awards were presented by the Mayor of Tadcaster, councillor Stephen Cobb and the Deputy Mayor, councillor Richard Sweeting.

The awards recognise achievement in the area to people who have ‘selflessly applied themselves to the betterment of the community and the well being of other people’.
