SHOPPERS and staff at a Tadcaster supermarket have raised more than £3,000 for a dog charity.

Sainsbury’s, which has been in partnership with the Dogs Trust as a chosen charity for the last year, has raised the money to help rehome abandoned and stray dogs.

Over the past year activities to raise cash by shoppers have included sponsoring the supermarket’s very own princess mascot Jess, which raised more than £2,000.

Other activities included dressing Guy Fawkes figures for Bonfire Night and inviting customers to donate to the one they preferred.

Sarah Powell, from the Dogs Trust, said: “We’re really grateful for the fantastic efforts of Sainsbury’s shoppers and staff. They have really helped raise the profile of our charity in Tadcaster. The money really has helped to make a difference to us over the last 12 months.”

Store manager at Sainsbury’s, James Dale, said: “Our customers have really helped to support the Dogs Trust.”
