Harrogate Magistrates Court weekly round-up

Joshua Roger Moffatt, 24, of 44 Stockwell Avenue, Knaresborough, was fined £170 for failing to stop after an accident which caused damage to another vehicle. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £250. No separate penalty was given for failing to notify police. He was disqualified from driving for six months.

Lee James Douglas, 45, of 6 Belmont Grove, Harrogate, was given a 12-month community order for driving while under the influence of alcohol. He was ordered to complete 140 hours of unpaid work. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £85 and costs of £85, and was disqualified from driving for 24 months, to be reduced by 24 weeks on completion of an approved course.

Samantha Jane Rowley, 34, of 121 Butterbowl Drive, Farnley, Leeds, was given a 12-month community order for two counts of committing fraud in Nunnington Crescent, Harrogate, by opening a catalogue account in a false name, to make gains of £632,27 and £432.48. She was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work and pay compensation of £1,069.79 and costs of £85.

Carrie Lynn Watson, 33, of The Mews, Little King Street, Pateley Bridge, was fined £205 for driving in Harrogate while disqualified. She was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85. No separate penalty was imposed for driving without insurance.

John Joe Reilly, 49, of 3 West View, North Deighton, was given a 12-month conditional discharge for assaulting a woman by beating her. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85.

Matthew James Roberts, 35, of no fixed address, was given a 12-month community order for assaulting a woman in Harrogate by beating her. He was fined £575 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £60 and costs of £85.

The following was dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on July 27:

Anthony McGee, 40, of 7 Neesom Avenue, Leeds was given a 12-week prison sentence for stealing two electric razors worth £584.94 from Boots in St James Retail Park, Knaresborough. Magistrates imposed a victim surcharge of £80. A concurrent sentence of two weeks was imposed for carrying a foil-lined box for theft at Boots, and two concurrent sentences of 12 weeks each for stealing an MP3 player worth £59.99 from Maplin in West Park, Harrogate, and a Samsung TV worth £264.99 from the Co-op in Jenny Field Drive, all on the same date. A further 12-week concurrent sentence was imposed for stealing a second Samsung TV of the same value eight days later. A consecutive two-week sentence was given for failing to surrender to custody. Magistrates ordered that the foil-lined box be destroyed.

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on July 21:

Jay Alan Herrington, 27, of 7 Albert Road, Harrogate, was fined £187 for assaulting a man in Harrison Grove by beating him. He was ordered to pay compensation of £100, a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £150.

Richard Michael Hart, 30, of 17 St Andrews Crescent, Harrogate, was given a two-month conditional discharge for stealing a bottle of wine worth from McColls in King Edwards Drive. He was ordered to pay compensation of £4.30, and a victim surcharge of £15.

Gary Anthony Jackson, 27, of 13 Newby Crescent, Harrogate, was fined £166 for damaging the wing mirror of a car in West Park, Harrogate. He was ordered to pay compensation of £75, a victim surcharge of £30 and costs of £85. No separate penalty was imposed for riding a bicycle without due care and attention.

Nesser Macalintal, 32, of 61 Chakeshill Drive, Bristol, was fined £200 for failing to stop after an accident in Blossomgate, Ripon, which caused damage to a Ford Focus. She was ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge and costs of £85. Five points were added to her licence.

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on July 20:

Jamie Lee Crawshaw, 21, of 4 Water Skellgate, Ripon, was given a three-month conditional discharge for being drunk and disorderly in Knaresborough High Street. He was ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs. For failing to surrender to custody at court, magistrates ordered that he be detained in the courthouse and deemed his detention served by the period already spent in custody.

Daniel James Nelson, 26, of 14 Kennion Road, Harrogate, was fined £70 for using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress. He was ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
