Harrogate Magistrates Court weekly round-up

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on July 12:

Samuel William Lawson, 24, of no fixed address, was sent to prison for 12 weeks for failing to comply with the terms of a previous suspended sentence. A sentence of 12 weeks for assaulting a woman in Woodfield Place, Harrogate, was activated, along with two weeks concurrent for damaging property and a further two weeks concurrent for resisting a police officer.

Sean Darren Dalton, 42, of 21 Stoneleigh Lane, Shadwell, Leeds, was sentenced to two weeks’ imprisonment for stealing a bottle of vodka and a bottle of wine from the Co-op in Harrogate. A previous suspended sentence of eight weeks, imposed for theft of clothing from French Connection in Leeds, was activated. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £115. No separate penalty was imposed for stealing a PCSO’s cap and gloves worth £31.02, at Harrogate train station, or for being drunk and disorderly at The Light, Leeds.

Paul Foster, 31, of Rede Avenue, Hebburn, South Tyneside, was fined £415 for driving while under the influence of alcohol in Knaresborough. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £40 and costs of £85, and was disqualified from driving for 12 months, to be reduced by three months on completion of an approved course. No separate penalty was imposed for driving without insurance.

Robert George Hindmarsh, 38, of 26 Riverside Park, York Road, Knaresborough, was fined £400 for failing to stop after an accident in Bondgate Green, Ripon. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £40 and costs of £85, and eight points were added to his licence. No separate penalty was imposed for driving without due care and attention.

Paul Richard Nelson, 50, of Flat 9, Regency Mews, Regent Grove, Harrogate, was given a 12-month community order for stealing food worth £16 from Marks and Spencer in Cambridge Street, and stealing jars of coffee and food from McColls in King Edwards Drive. He was also found guilty of using threatening, insulting or abusive words or behaviour with intent to cause harassment, alarm or distress. Magistrates imposed a 28-day curfew along with a victim surcharge of £85, and he was banned from entering any McColls or Marks and Spencer in Harrogate for a year.

Andrew John Scatchard, 23, of 57 Priest Lane, Ripon, was fined £305 for driving on the B6165 in Nidd while under the influence of alcohol. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and costs of £85, and was disqualified from driving for 20 months, to be reduced by 20 weeks on completion of an approved course.

Terence Edwards, 65, of Flat 2, 113A Britannia Road, Morley, was fined £155 for driving while under the influence of alcohol on the B1224 at Bilton in Ainsty. He must pay a victim surcharge of £30 and costs of £85, and was disqualified from driving for 40 months.

Julie Ruth Rutherford, 47, of Flat 10, Alderson Court, Robert Street, Harrogate, was fined £45 for stealing a bottle of Lindeman’s white wine from My Local in Harrogate. She was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £45 and costs of £85. For committing a further offence while subject to a conditional discharge for stealing prosecco from Marks and Spencer, she was fined £45.

Harry Cox, 30, care of 70 Dene Park, Harrogate, was ordered to pay costs of £40 for failing to comply with the requirements of a previous community order. A further seven hours of unpaid work was added to the 80 hours already imposed.

Simon Adrian Donno, 28, of 14 Coppice Way, Harrogate, was given a three month prison sentence suspended for 12 months after failing to comply with terms of a previous community order for assaulting a woman by beating. A three-month curfew was imposed

Samual Sutherland Mallett 28, of 5 South Beech Avenue, Harrogate, was £135 for being drunk and disorderly. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and costs of £85.

Nathan McGowan, 22, of no fixed address, was ordered to complete 20 hours of unpaid work for failing to comply with the supervision requirements following his release from prison.

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on July 7:

Peter Forro, 36, of 38 Oakdale Avenue, Harrogate, was fined £455 for failing to report an accident involving a woman and her dog in Dragon Road, Harrogate. He was ordered to pay compensation of £300, a victim surcharge of £46 and costs of £200, and was disqualified from driving for 24 months. No separate penalty was imposed for driving without due care and attention, driving without a licence, or driving without insurance.

Christopher Thomas Eric Kelly, 31, of Church View, Ripley, was fined £325 for damaging a TV, an iPhone, an Xbox and a laptop at a property in Ripon. He was ordered to pay compensation of £349 and costs of £100, and was made subject to a one-year restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.

John Charles Proctor, 49, of 3 The Grange, York Road to Flaxby Grange, Flaxby, was fined £175 for failing to report an accident in Boroughbridge. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £150.

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on July 6:

John Michael Dunn, 71, of Flat 1, Iddesleigh House, 17a Bondgate Green, Ripon, was fined £300 for failing to give a specimen of breath when suspected of attempting to drive a vehicle. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and costs of £85, and was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Ashley Paul Watson, 21, of 38 Oak Road, Ripon, was sentenced to one month in prison for two breaches of a restraining order preventing him from contacting a woman. He was sentenced to a further three months’ imprisonment, consecutive to the first sentence, for assaulting a man by beating him at The Navigation Inn in Ripon. He was ordered to pay compensation of £200, a victim surcharge of £115 and costs of £85.
