Thomas Christopher Robinson, 35, of 7 Elm Tree Avenue, Harrogate, was given a 12-month community order for stealing fragrance and electrical items worth £986.96 from Boots at St James Retail Park, Knaresborough. He was ordered to complete 225 hours of unpaid work and to pay a victim surcharge of £60.

Christopher Paul Binder, 26, of 30 Pendragon Way, Harrogate, was given a two-year community order for assaulting a woman by beating her. He was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and complete a Building Better Relationships programme. Magistrates imposed a restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim. He was fined £650 and ordered to pay compensation of £300 and a victim surcharge of £60.

Dominic Regan Smith, 36, of 3 Jubilee Terrace, York, was given a five-week prison sentence for stealing two bottles of Champagne worth £28 from Marks and Spencer in Cambridge Street, Harrogate. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £80. For a second charge of stealing a bottle of Champagne and a sandwich from the same shop on the same date in February, he was given a six-week prison sentence to run consecutively with the first. For a further charge of stealing items worth £74.50 from Paperchase in York, he was given another consecutive five-week prison sentence.

Julie Ruth Rutherford, 47, of Flat 10, Alderson Court, Robert Street, Harrogate, was given a six-month conditional discharge for stealing a bottle of prosecco from Marks and Spencer on December 21, 2015. She was ordered to pay compensation of £12, a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £85. For a separate charge of failing to comply with the supervision requirements imposed following her release from prison, she was given a two-month curfew and ordered to pay costs of £45.

Liam John Byrne, 29, of Flat 1, Chatsworth House, Chatsworth Place, Harrogate, was given a 12-month community order for stealing a sat nav system, a car radio and charger, 25 CDs and five bottles of alcohol, worth a total of £500, from Hampsthwaite Road, Harrogate. He was ordered to complete a Thinking Skills programme and carry out 60 hours of unpaid work, and to pay a victim surcharge of £60 and costs of £85.

Jacob James Davy, 37, of Flat 71 Skipton Road, Harrogate, was given a 12-month community order for assaulting a man by beating him. He was made subject to a two-year restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim, and was ordered to pay compensation of £100, a victim surcharge of £60 and costs of £85.

Dominic Hippe, 27, of 23 Hardy Street, Selby, was given a 12-month conditional discharge for possession of cannabis on the A1(M) at Boroughbridge. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £85, and magistrates ordered that the drug be forfeited and destroyed. For driving a vehicle when a tyre had the ply or cord exposed, three points were added to his driving licence.
