Aberford Village Gala has been declared another great success despite the rain that threatened on the day.
And organisers this week announced that £2,000 had been raised.
The gala was opened by the Gala Queens – Katie Burlingham and Rachel Woods aided by their attendants – Millie Brooker and Billy Norton-Kitching who arrived on a float decorated by the children of Aberford C of E School.
Attendees were treated throughout the day to performances from the Katie Louise School of Dance, the school Choir and a sneak preview of the school’s up-coming production of Oliver!
Other highlights of the day included TA-led activities, welly wanging and for the first time ever a human fruit machine manned by teachers and staff.
Other surprises included a visit from the Garforth Fire Service and a vintage police car from Wetherby Police.
Everyone had a fantastic day of fun (and cake), but the children of Aberford Primary School especially enjoyed throwing wet sponges at their teachers in the stocks
The day proved to be a brilliant community event which culminated in the now annual village tug of war – north of the village versus south.
