Rotherham United loanee Jerry Yates scored his first two goals in a Harrogate Town shirt to help sweep Corby Town aside 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Town bounced back from last week's home defeat to Alfreton Town and maintained their position inside the National League North play-off zone with a comfortable win, inspired by a lively display up front by teenager Yates.

However, it was the hosts who pressured early on, and were unlucky not to take the lead when striking the bar inside three minutes.

Yates found the opener with his his first goal for Town on 27 minutes with a cleanly-struck volley from Lloyd Kerry's cross.

That was the only breakthrough in the first half, but Town soon doubled their advantage after the turnaround when Luke Shiels tapped in Brendon Daniels' pull back.

On 57 minutes, Yates came close to extending the advantage when toe-poking Joe Colbeck's cross wide. And the teenager got his second two minutes later as he raced clear and rounded Corby keeper Harry Burgoyne.

Town remained on top in the latter stages and Dom Knowles saw an effort cleared off the line after a mazy run by substitute Jack Emmett.

Corby came close to a consolation in the final minute, but Peter Crook tipped Clayton McDonald's header over.
