Events at Thorner’s award winning Victory Hall are picking up speed for 2012 and an important phase of building works to improve access to the Hall is now under way.
A major factor in the seven-year campaign which has helped boost a major refurbishment programme, has been an annual comedy festival, and tickets are now on sale for the 2012 Festival that will take place on February 24 and 25.
Festival organiser Alex Foster said: “We’ve seen some quality acts over the years, including Michael McIntyre, Alan Carr, Shappi Khorsandi, Russell Kane, Marcus Brigstocke, Russell Howard - all of whom have gone on to become TV comedy stars.
“Last year all 600 tickets sold in two weeks, and we’re expecting demand to be just as brisk this year, though we’ll not be able to announce this year’s line up for a few weeks yet.”
Anyone interested in tickets for the Festival can get more details and buy online through the website www.thornervictoryhall.co.uk.
But with the New Year there are other things happening at the Hall that will appeal to different interests.
Victory Hall Committee Member John Calvert said: “We have much improved facilities at the Hall, and a full programme of regular weekly activities, but we’ve tried to find out what other things people would like to see.
“As a result we’re offering a taster course in Tai Chi and a series of all age all ability Sunday afternoon singing workshops – we really do want to find something to meet all tastes!”
The Thorner Tai Chi sessions will be on Thursday mornings in February, and the singing Workshops start on January 14 for four weeks.
