collingham Tennis Club officially unveiled their new courts after major refurbishment and were joined on the occasion by Alec Shelbrooke MP and Timothy Kirkhope MEP.

Members of the village sports club have had a busy few years organising events to save money to have the facility resurfaced and the surround netting replaced.

A spokesman said: “The members are very grateful to Green Leeds for its financial contribution to the work.

“The club lies in the centre of Collingham’s conservation area and the refurbishment significantly enhances this well-kept part of the village.”

Coaching for adults and juniors is provided by Angela Crossley and her team.

The club works closely with Wetherby Castlegarth Tennis Club and Collingham Lady Elizabeth Hastings C of E School also makes use of the courts on Wednesday afternoons.

Alec Shelbrooke said: “The new facilities at Collingham Tennis Club are fantastic.

“Though I’m certainly not a pro myself, it was great to try out the new facilities with my colleague, Timothy Kirkhope MEP.

“With the Olympics just around the corner, I’m delighted that my constituency is once again playing its part in the Olympic legacy and I wish the very best to all at Collingham Tennis Club.”

Anyone who is interested in joining the club or taking part can turn up to sessions on Sundays from 10am or on Mondays from 6pm.
